This is the last week of school in 2013! Can you believe how quickly our year is going?! We are so proud of the progress we've seen in both math and reading.
Just a few reminders to start off the week:
1.) Wednesday is the "Very Merry Spirit" day. Wear your favorite holiday clothes, "wonderful" sweaters, or crazy socks!! (If you can, please donate a dollar for Toys for Tots.)
2.) Thursday is our Polar Express Day. We will be watching the polar express in the afternoon, so naturally we will all need our pajamas to wear that day!! How much fun will we have?!? Appropriate outside clothes are needed, as we wills till be going outside. (i.e. a change of shoes if choosing to wear slippers)
3. Our Holiday Program is on Friday. We have two showings: 9:00 am and 1:45 pm. This will be our big send-off to the New Year!

Update 12/11/13
Wednesday Letter
1.) Brrr! Still fighting the weather. Continue packing appropriate snow gear. We have been playing outside if it above 0.
2.) Christmas Stroll Friday. Should be fun!
3.) We have been working on the "7 Habits of Highly Successful Students." It is a twist off from, "The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People." It has some nice tips, and I think it is improving our classroom atmosphere.
4.) We will start our reading testing next week.

This was our Fun Friday Activity! We all turned into sneaky little elves <3 It was an easy find on the web, but the kiddos loved it. We wrote applications to Santa explaining why we would make good helper elves. Welcome to the Holiday Season!

Update 11/20/13
This is for any of you that are already following the blog! Welcome!
Items of Info:
Keep bringing those Box Tops! Due by Friday!
The weather quickly changed. If the windchill is below 0, we stay in doors. Otherwise, out we go. Please, please, please label all of the pieces of the snow gear. I do a class lost and found, and after a few days, I send it down to the office lost and found.
The Holiday Music Program is Friday, December 13th. We will do two showings that day. One in the morning, and one earl afternoon. Take a half-day so you can make one of the two!
I have started a Donors Choose project. It is for math manipulatives in our room. If you would like to donate, here is the link. http://www.donorschoose.org/mrs.dimock

A Little Glimpse into Our Day!
We have been hard at work making sure our sentences start with capitals and end with a punctuation mark!
Our Sentence Song:
"Every sentence starts with a capital,
starts with a capital, starts with a capital.
Every sentence starts with a capital,
and ends with a punctuation mark!"

District Literacy Page
I am finding the resources on the Billings School's website are very helpful! One I would like to share today is the primary literacy website. It is full of ideas for teachers and parents to work with kids on writing and reading.

The fall projects are endless, but this week and next we will explore leaves. The following weeks are pumpkins and bats!

First reading update!
Greetings! We have been working hard on our literacy centers, Lead 21, and spelling.
Below is a link to a blog that has sight words listed by grade. It never hurts to go back and review previous lists.

Practice, practice, practice!
Our spelling words this week are:
am, at, map, tap, ham, hat, sat
Bonus- had, all
The real practice is noticing the cvc pattern with short a in any word.
