Polar Express Day 12/22/15

We will be celebrating our final day of school (22nd) before the break by having a Polar Express celebration. The kids are encouraged to wear pajamas and slippers (bring shoes or boots for recess and dismissal) and bring a small stuffed animal and/or blanket.  It needs to fit in their backpacks.  Please don't let them bring anything that is very special to you or them as there is a good possibility it could get stained with hot chocolate. We will be reading the Polar Express and watching the movie. We will drink hot cocoa and eat snacks.  It should be a lot of fun.  Would you be interested in bringing a healthy snack for our celebration?  Some ideas would be cheese and crackers, veggie platter with ranch, already popped popcorn, trail mix etc.  I suppose we could have a few sweets too. If you are willing to help, please email me with what you want to bring at dimockc@billingsschools.org.   This way we won't have doubles of the same thing.

Wishing you well!

'Tis the Season!

Welcome to our last full week before break! We've been doing a lot of fun craftivities this last week. Jessica, our classroom elf, has been up to some silly tricks lately. Look at these cute little elves <3

Next week we will begin assessing reading levels and math skills for the end of Quarter 2. I hope to be able to validate the awesome growth I've been seeing in the kiddos!

Some reminders for next week:

Thursday will be our last Library check-out before the break. I've been noticing a lot of missing books and hope to see every kiddo checking out a great book to practice reading over the long break.

Friday is our Christmas program at 9:30. As always, parking will be tricky, so give yourself plenty of time to park, walk, and find a seat. I know the kiddos are always nervous/excited/scared, but when they see your faces, it makes them feel so loved!

This week is going to be full of excitement and whacky behaviors. We'll try our best to maintain some routine. Thanks for all that you do!

Hello, There!

I hope everyone had a restful weekend! The kiddos are getting pretty amped up for the Holidays. I won't be hear on Monday, but we'll have a wonderful guest teacher Miss Brandi filling in for me. The kiddos will know her from her work in the cafeteria and lunch time and you may know her from crosswalk duty.

This week is full of new skills and review of important beginning of the quarter skills. In reading comprehension, we will be focusing on identifying the problem in a story. Reading groups will be working on, "How can matter change?" In writing, we are still working on our How-To books. The kiddos are getting close to publishing again, so keep an ear out for the next writing celebration! In math, we'll continue review of missing addend, three addend addition, properties, and counting within 0-120.

As you may have hear, we have an elf visitor in our classroom. The kids voted on Jessica as a name and we've been writing letters everyday to the North Pole letting Old Saint Nick know what she's been up to! They are having a blast and are enjoying writing in a journal daily. We'll keep this up until Christmas break when Jessica has to go back to the North Pole to get ready for Christmas.

Again, we are running fairly low on snack. If anyone could drop off some donations of gold fish, pretzels, or crackers, that would be great!

Have a great week!
