Race to the End!

Hi, there!

Sorry for the lapse in blogging. I hope all enjoyed the long weekend. Here are some tidy-up topics.

1.) Animal Presentations moved to 1:30 on Friday out of pick-up convenience. We thought about it, and it would make most sense to do it closer to the end of the day. The cute invitations will go home today. So far, I have one juice donation and one brownie donation for our reception. If anyone else would like to send some, email me so I know how much to prepare for! dimockc@billingsschools.org I will provide plates and cups.
2.)Field Day is tomorrow from 8:55-10:40. Mrs. Buss asks that students wear tennis shoes, a non-white shirt (as we are doing water races ; ), and bring their own water bottles. Get ready for some fun!
3.) Some students may notice some of our "things" missing from the room. I'm slowly preparing to move across the room to make way for the 3rd kindergarten class in our building next year. No need to panic!
4.) I know it is tempting to miss school these last couple of weeks, but we are busy beavers trying to finish up some loose ends. Keep up the stamina!
5.) Our field trip is fast approaching! I have the volunteers signed up and am hoping for great weather! On that day, if you didn't sign up for sack lunch, please be sure to send a lunch. We will have some water available, but please send a water bottle, a hat, and good fitting shoes. Sunscreen/bugspray in the morning before school.
6.) We are running out of snacks for the year. If anyone would like to send something easy, like goldfish, that should last us until the end. Thanks!

The kiddos did such a great job at their "Stone Soup," musical!

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all of you mommas had a relaxing Sunday! You are truly appreciated from a teacher's perspective ;) How did you like the flowers? I wouldn't mind some feedback for next year's Mother's Day project.

Some important notes for this week.

1.) The spelling list is a bit tricky for this group of phonics learners. Long o is easy to hear, but hard to visualize. Practice sorting the words into a list  of /ow/, /oa/, /oe . That way they can visualize how the word looks and remember it for longer than just the test ; )
2.) The 1st Grade Musical is on May 23rd at 9:45 am.
3.) Field Day is on May 29th
4.) Our animal reports are being typed and illustrated this week! Remember, the presentation will be on Friday May 30th at 1 pm. We are having a cookie and juice reception if anyone would like to donate some of those items closer to the date.
5.) Our field trip is June 3rd. Sack lunch day.
6.) June 4th is the End of the Year Awards Assembly
7.) Last Day of schools if Friday, June 6th. That is a half-day.

Whew...I'm sure there is more! Stay strong in these last few weeks. The kiddos do so well with routine and clear expectations. This will be the last week of a formal Spelling Test, but I will continue to do sight word assessments until May 30th when report cards are due. Also, this is the last official week of Book Bags. I have so many kiddos that didn't bring the bags back consistently that it was hard to keep on a routine. Notes for next year, right?! ; )

Thanks for all that you do! Have a great week.

Update 5/5/14

Finally!  A full week of school!

It is supposed to be rainy this week.  Please send your kiddos dressed appropriately.

In reading groups we will continue to learn about habitats.  The groups will be learning about the desert, grassland, forest, and water habitats.  The kiddos are loving this unit and have learned many new facts about different habitats!

In math we will continue to work on time to the half-hour. Here is a fun video that all the kiddos enjoy from Teacher Tipster!

We will be finishing our Mother's Day gifts this week. Please be sure to open them on Friday!

Please be sure to help your kiddo practice their spelling words.  Our spelling scores seems to be dropping with the tougher spelling lists and busy schedules.  It is essential to teach your kiddos that school is important and so are good work habits even with a busy schedule.
